How to Replace a Face in a Photo

A face-replace works by mapping the source face's features onto the target's head position, then relighting and blending the edges. When the source and target are lit and angled similarly, the blend is invisible. When they clash — a front-lit selfie onto a side-lit target — the seams show.

The single biggest lever is the source selfie: front-facing or slight three-quarter angle, even light, eyes open, no hair across the face, no sunglasses. Give the model a clean, well-lit face and it has everything it needs to relight for any target.

The second lever is picking a target where the head is a reasonable size in frame. A tiny, distant face has too few pixels to replace convincingly; a clear, medium-to-large face gives a crisp result.
